Kicking back with a joint and a good show is one of the better ways to unwind after a long day – or to start a day off on the right foot, whatever you’re into. Whether you like to laugh, be amazed or just drift off to the velvety voice of Liam Neeson (whose commanding presence made him the most suitable choice to voice King Aslan, play Zeus, King of the Gods, and train Batman), there’s something out there for you.
Featuring some of the classic funnies, reality TV and a lot of nature shows – here is a list of 10 shows and films to check out while you’re high.
1. Wild Japan: Snow Monkeys on Disney+
Guided by the calming voice of Liam Neeson, this show will take you on a journey through the snowy mountains of central Japan alongside a baby Macaque monkey named Hiro and his family.
2. Ozzy Man Reviews on YouTube
This is a YouTube channel, not a show, but well worth the visit – especially while you’re high. Ozzy’s hilarious reviews of animal interactions will cause laugh attacks.
3. Guy’s Grocery Games on the Food Network
If you’re trying to avoid falling into a munchy coma, watching a cooking show while high is risky business. But for those of you who haven’t abandoned cable in favour of the many available streaming services, Guy’s Grocery Games is a goofy but surprisingly impressive competitive cooking game hosted by Guy Fieri. Take a trip to Flavourtown.
4. The Simpsons on Disney+
This is a classic, that’s it.
5. Grace and Frankie on Netflix
If you’re looking for a romantic comedy meets raunchy sit-com vibe for your high, look no further than Grace and Frankie. This story of two senior women (one with a taste for good weed) whose husbands come out as gay in their seventies has seven seasons to binge.
6. Too Hot to Handle on Netflix
If you’re into trashy reality TV, this is a show about beautiful people on a beautiful private island who aren’t allowed to sleep together. Peak ridiculous and great for a laugh.
7. Love, Death & Robots on Netflix
Composed of short individual clips, this series has a little bit of everything including sci-fi, comedy and horror. Not necessarily for laughs, but the creativity is sure to impress you.
8. Avatar on Disney+
Avatar is a wonderful walk through a foreign universe with beautiful imagery and spectacular flora and fauna and mythical creatures. Released in 2009, chances are you’ve already seen it – but it’s amazing and always worth a re-watch, that’s a hill we’ll die on.
9. Trailer Park Boys on Netflix
Obviously. Is making a list of shows to watch while high without including Trailer Park Boys even allowed? We don’t think so.
10. Secrets of the Whales on Disney+
Take a deep dive with some of the world’s biggest creatures! Directed by James Cameron (the brilliant mind behind Avatar) and narrated by Sigourney Weaver (who also acts brilliantly in Avatar), this is a peaceful journey to enjoy while feeling a little elevated.
