420 2021
The international, unofficially official day of celebration for cannabis in all its forms.
There’s some debate around the original significance of 420 in the cannabis community.
One of the most popular, widely accepted stories begins in San Rafael, California, in 1971. It was there a group of high school students made 4:20 their designated time to meet and smoke weed together after school – and occasionally go hunting for a hidden pot field rumored to exist in the hills outside of town.
In 1991, however, High Times Magazine published text from a Grateful Dead flyer that had circulated the year before, claiming that 420 originated in California as a code used by police to convey “marijuana smoking in progress.”
In 1994, the clocks in Quentin Tarantino’s iconic Pulp Fiction read 4:20 (on second thought … this might just be a fun fact.)
Whatever individual theory you subscribe to as a cannabis enthusiast, the fact remains that 420 is a day to chill out, enjoy, and share with a growing (hehe) international community.
While this year, unfortunately, does promise to be low on festivals and in-person celebrations for 420, that doesn’t mean you can’t still smoke in solidarity with millions of others around the globe while we all wait for the world to go back to normal.
Douglasdale Cannabis will have plenty of 4/20 sales going on all day! Stop by and pick up some of your tried and trusted favorites, or check out something new!
